About

Hi, I’m a musician who’s recently returned to serious music after a disenchanted period away. I decided in 2008 to re-present myself to music seriously. 2008 was spent re-visiting who I am as a musican, how I play instruments and the sounds as styles of music I listen to, I am influenced by and what I like to write. From a personal perspective it was very sucessful, for the first time in a long time I learnt to musically stand on my own two feet with style and sound rather than try to re-create the music I was listening to at that time. My playing has changed over the last 5 years from where it was when I started playing 10+ years ago now and I’m pretty comfortable with how it sounds. It’s a little more subtle and less flash than I used to be, gone are the days of wild shredding and in are the days of control, holding back and not showing your full hand or ability all the time. I wrote some songs, some I liked, some I thought I liked, but have since re-written and some that where just bad. 2009 I spent trying to find people to play with to drive these songs forward in a live arena and in a recorded place. On this aspect I failed, most of my live playing was taken doing dep work for already existing bands, or dep recording work. I did however get  a much better understanding of how to record music from this, and developed my home recording techniques and abilities, while also helping understand how to generate a good live sound. I’m currently pushing on, trying to find the right people to play with in 2010, I’ve recorded rough demo’s and hope to progess them to a proper demo quality recording before sitting down to record to a professional quality.

in 2008 I set myself the goal writing and recording a 5 track EP, which can be expanded into a project that has a working title of 5×3, which is the same five songs played in three different styles to see if they hold up in all situations. A studio recording, a live recording and an acoustic recording. This was tol eventually progress into a finished full studio album recording. This goal failed, I wrote the 5 songs, I did the rough demo’s but without the right people to play with, it was impossible and to a degree pointless to progress it. I’ve scaled back the project to record a professional five track EP, that can then be used as platform to develop a full albums worth of music which will not include the current five songs. I’ve not put a timescale on this as that just invites failure from factors outside of my control. The 5×3 project can be picked up if the five track EP is a sucess.

As with last year, I’m better prepared than I was the previous year, but that doesn’t account for my current lack of progress. I am as driven as ever though.

I’ll also be doing session work, writing and playing for people that I feel I can do good work with.

Keep an eye on the updates and lets see how I get on.
