Music in the ether

This week I’ve sent off some rough tracks to a few other musicians, some for critique and feedback on not only the music but the techniaues used to record it, others to see if they are interested in meeting up / talking about playing together.  I’ve also been contacted by a covers band about playing with them as their regular guitarist left. I thought about it, for a short while as something that may be fun, but after realising they wanted to do a long audtion process, they played songs I didn’t want to play (lots of them, Blondie etc) and the fact that they wanted a bigger chunk of commitment than I would be prepared to offer I decided against it.

On a site note, I’ve updated the gear page and some of my links.

Musical Reviews

As the album vault process is working out for me quite well, I thought I may add a “review” section to the site, seperate from my musical blogging, and review from my point of view – at that moment in time the album I’m listening to, make notes on its positives, negatives, what it inspires and the like then revisit it at a point in time and see if my thoughts changed. I’ve been toying with this for a few weeks but today I listened to U2′s Actung Baby album, one that I’ve never really got on with and mostly really enjoyed it, the same has been true for most of the albums I’ve been listening to on my album vault adventure.  I’ll see if I can set this up on the site in the next few days, but if it works out I can expand it to gigs I see as well as new CD’s I buy.

Mid Week Update

It’s been a busy and frantic week, I’ve covered easy over 1000 miles with day to day work, visiting family and my own life. It’s not been the best week for music as I’ve had a few things to juggle, that said, I have managed to do some drum programming for song ideas and managed to get one drum track finished. It’s not great but it serves it’s purpose as a place holder for real drums. It’s for a song about a prostitue, who is trying to not be a prostitute, it’s coming together quite well. I’ve also been working hard on my guitar sounds, I’m working with my Fender amp to try to fine tune the sound I’m after, I’m playing with valves this weekend if they turn up on time so that should make an interesting blog post next week depending on how it goes.  I also get a guitar back from the workshop after a neck repair and a new nut which is a new style for me called a “Funky Nut” which you can read about here if you want to.

I’m also picking up my gig rig pro foot switch controller this weekend, which hopefully will allow me to make my pedal board a full time setup rather than just picking a few pedals and frantically wiring them up before use each time.

Although this week hasn’t been great for music, with a nice long bank holiday weekend approaching and some new toy – or old toys revived to play with I should be able to make better progress.
